Now that academia is starting to devote attention to comics, there are open questions around what comics classes can be. What does "comics studies" mean right now, and what is it becoming? How do you teach comics-making, and what can formal instruction do for creators working in a medium that's historically been full of autodidacts? What's the relationship between comics studies and more established academic disciplines around the study and creation of literature and visual art? This panel will feature instructors with a variety of pedagogical approaches, examining the role comic art plays in the academy and discussing opportunities for students interested in studying the medium in colleges and universities.
